Policy debate (or CX) is the form of debate that involves debating over the implementation of a policy between teams of two. Holding the longest speech times, policy is catered towards discussing in-depth issues such as the economic, social, and political consequences of a policy, as well as leaving space for a plethora of other issues such as critical theory (philosophy), global issues, and governmental operations.

Unique to policy debate, topics change annually, allowing for thorough research and nuanced debates. Topics also reflect a variety of global issues, ranging from international relations with NATO, the legal system, and policy over topics such as intellectual property, fiscal redistribution, and even the Arctic! Additionally debaters defend a plan (instead of being for or against the resolution such as in Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas), which provides for the most in-depth debates possible!

Being the only debate which continues into college on a large scale, policy stands out to admissions and assists in the development of diverse skills, from the communication and critical thinking skills that come from advocating for a plan, to the invaluable skill of research, to forming opinions that you'll be able to thoroughly defend!
